By Ivy Jensen

AN ECHUCA man is in a serious condition after crashing into an irrigation channel at Kotta yesterday.

The 23-year-old was trapped in his car for about an hour after the single vehicle collision at 1.38pm on Echuca-Mitiamo Rd near Aird Rd.

‘‘He ran off the road ... suffering non-life threatening injuries and causing damage to the front end of the vehicle,’’ Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol said.

‘‘The cause is still being investigated.’’

Echuca-Moama Search and Rescue spent about an hour freeing the man who was conscious but extensively trapped.

An air ambulance helicopter flew the man to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition with suspected pelvis and hip injuries.

Police and CFA crews also attended the accident.
