Trial set for child abuse

June 09, 2018

AN ECHUCA man has been directed to stand trial over child abuse offences.

The 18-year-old faced Bendigo Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where his matter was directed for trial at Bendigo County Court on July 30.

The man was charged by Victorian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) officers in February after they executed a search of his home.

Police will allege that the man used mobile application Snapchat to transmit abuse of a child under the age of 12 years to another user.

He is charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 12 years contrary to Section 45 of the Crimes Act 1958 (VIC), and use of a carriage service to produce and transmit child exploitation material, contrary to sections 474.19(1)(a)(iii) and 474.20(1)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).

■Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child exploitation material are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
