FOUR drunk and drug drivers were caught across Campaspe over the Easter long weekend.
They were among more than 550 drunk and drug drivers caught across the state over the five days of Operation Nexus.
Across Campaspe, police carried out 669 random breath tests and detected 73 traffic offences.
There was also a serious injury accident at Rushworth where a woman collided with a tree.
‘‘Otherwise, traffic and drivers were very well behaved even though there was significant traffic around the district,’’ he said.
‘‘Good weather and patient drivers also helped.’’
Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said it was disappointing motorists still chose to do the wrong thing when behind the wheel and risk not only their own lives but the lives of others.
‘‘With a strong police presence out on the roads over the long weekend our police officers detected over 9570 traffic offences,’’ Assist. Comm. Fryer said. ‘‘Three hundred and twenty seven drink drivers and 230 drug offences were also detected.’’
