A WOMAN who cashed out someone else’s pokies winnings because it was a ‘‘hot day’’ has been fined $400.

A WOMAN who cashed out someone else’s pokies winnings because it was a ‘‘hot day’’ has been fined $400.

Echuca’s Kate Everitt appeared in Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to one count of theft.

The court heard the victim had been playing the pokies at the American Hotel Echuca on December 12, 2017.

‘‘The victim had gone out to the smokers area at 5pm and placed a reserved sign on the machine he was using,’’ police prosecutor Senior Constable Karl Mannes said.

‘‘There was a $21 balance on the machine and the accused cashed out the money in $1 coins and left the hotel.

‘‘Police were informed and video footage showed the accused leaving with the money.

‘‘The accused did return to the American to apologise and return the money.’’

Everitt was interviewed by police on December 18 where she made full admissions to the theft.

‘‘When asked why she stole the money she stated there were 10-15 different things on her mind at the time,’’ Snr Constable Mannes said.

Everitt told Magistrate Patrick Southey it was a ‘‘hot day’’ and she had been staying in a hotel room with no air con before the offence occurred.

‘‘This is a low act,’’ Mr Southey said.

‘‘You have been in trouble before and on this occasion you made it so simple as you were caught on camera.’’

She was fined and convicted.
