Police and a fire crew were called to a two-vehicle accident on the Cobb Hwy outside Mathoura.

TWELVE head of cattle died as a result of a heavy vehicle accident in Mathoura on Friday.

A heavy vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old Victorian man, was towing two trailers along the Bunnaloo Rd near Mathoura about 5.30am when it rolled.

‘‘When the vehicle attempted to negotiate a left-hand bend along Bunnaloo Rd at a stated speed of 60km/h, the driver felt the truck pull to the left,’’ Inspector John Aichinger of Deniliquin police said.

‘‘The driver has attempted to correct this but was unable to. The momentum was so great that the complete unit has rolled onto its nearside and slid for approximately 20m before coming to rest off the roadway.

‘‘As a result of the rollover, 12 head of cattle were destroyed.’’

Later that day, police and a fire crew were called to a two-vehicle accident on the Cobb Hwy outside Mathoura.

A NSW Police Media spokesperson said a truck ran into the back of a vehicle at 12.20pm, about 22km north of Moama.

‘‘The woman driving the vehicle bumped her head and was taken to Echuca hospital,’’ he said.

Investigations are continuing.
