Echuca’s country feel

Echuca’s Courtney McGraw with daughter Lace Frusher, two weeks.

ECHUCA’S Courtney McGraw said she and her partner Dean Frusher chose to raise their three children Arlie, 4, Lila, 2, and Lace, two weeks, in Echuca to be closer to family while soaking up the country lifestyle.

“Of course, giving birth in Echuca presented its challenges, especially when I had complications during the last birth,” she said.

“But it feels a lot safer having the kids grow up in a small country town, plus there are plenty of great playgroups around.”

Courtney pinned Melbourne’s sliding birth rate down to city-dwelling females’ focus on career.

“People are a lot more family-minded in country areas,’’ she said.

‘‘Whereas in Melbourne they can tend to be a lot more career-driven.’’
