A TWO-KILOMETRE stretch of road near Echuca will receive a complete overhaul.
The section of Murray Valley Hwy at Wharparilla, to the west of Echuca, will be completely rebuilt to make it more reliable for the region’s grain and fruit producers.
The project stems from a $530 million package from the Victorian Government to increase safety on country roads.
Additional major rehabilitation works will occur on Echuca-Mooroopna Road at Wyuna East, and on Prairie-Rochester Road.
Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the investment will boost safety and reliability of local roads which connect residents, visitors and industry.
‘‘We’re making regional roads safer and more reliable to ensure local producers can move their goods as safely and efficiently as possible,’’ he said.
‘‘We know how important local roads are to country communities, that’s why we’ve doubled Victoria’s spending on road maintenance this financial year.’’
Most works will occur between September and April, when warmer and dryer weather allows new road surfaces to cure.
