IT SEEMED the weather was determined to be the headline act of 2016 Echuca Moama Sweat vs Steam instead of the runners.
Rising river levels had the course changed three times before the event — and in a final blow the expected 27 degree day turned into a cold, windy morning.
But that didn’t stop the registered 491 runners from braving the conditions to make for another successful year in the event’s running.
Local Echuca runner Tarli Bird was first across the line in the 5km event, just under a minute ahead of runner-up Archie Reid, 15, who was second overall and took out the secondary school category.
Bird has won the 12.5km course twice before, but with the Melbourne Marathon this Sunday she was happy with the shorter race as a nice hit out ahead of her running the event.
